Sharon McNight"The First 30 Years"
Cabaret’s iconic entertainer and Tony award nominee, Sharon McNight, debuts "The First 30 Years" - an introspective retrospect from Moose Hall to Carnegie Hall (and all the gin joints on the way) at the New York City’s Metropolitan Room in March with Ian Herman as the musical director. In "The First 30 Years," Sharon shares her quixotic experiences from performing on a stage of stacked beer cases in San Francisco’s Castro District to starring on Broadway in "Starmites" or from the Reno Rodeo to the Frankfort Opera House. The California native is a favorite with concert and cabaret audiences, and is know for her sardonic comedy style and wry comments plus an eclectic mix of songs from "Desperado" to the reenactment of "The Wizard of OZ." To many, her off-the-cuff ad libs and audience participation may be the most revered elements of any McNight show; "The First 30 Years" is no exception. Through the miracle of scrapbooking, (before it became popular), McNight backs up every story with hard evidence. McNight was awarded twice by Bay Area Critics as Best Actress for her performance in "Hello Dolly" and "Nunsense." Her other awards include a MAC, Bistro, Golden Gull, 5 Cabaret Golds, 3 Cable Cars, and a Nightlife from New York critics for Best Musical Comedy - "Ladies, Compose Yourselves!" Sharon has appeared in film and on television, most recently on the Disney Channel’s "Hannah Montana." Of her many accomplishments, McNight is most proud of her funding raising work on behalf of AIDS charities.
