"In The Key of Comedy"

joancroweretouched

For her new series, "In The Key Of Comedy," hilariously funny jazz
chick, Joan Crowe, is using her formidable skills as a singer and
comedienne to explore humorous jazz, old and contemporary. Joan has
invited a different comic each week to open the show and warm up the
crowd. When Joan enters the stage, the tall beauty delivers a
sensational entertainment experience, showcasing music by Fats
Waller, Louis Jordan, Cab Calloway, Oscar Brown Jr., Dave Frishberg,
Bob Dourough, and contemporary writers, too. You will hear a unique
repertoire emphasizing funny jazz from every era. Joan Crowe
performs a different show each week through July!

“A slightly twisted and superbly talented chanteuse”

-Tom Staudter- New York Times

"Joan Crowe gets to the heart of a song's story,” wrote
Michael Bourne of WBGO, “and she’s funny. And she is beautiful. ” Jazz
DJ Bourne is a Joan Crowe fan who wrote the liner notes for her debut
CD, Bird On The Wire, and a long time supporter of her work.

Joan Crowe's latest CD (June, 2009), In The Key Of Comedy,
is a high energy, eclectic mix of the Great American Songbook, vintage
jazz and contemporary offbeat tunes with a sense of humor. The idea
for the project came as a response to the popularity of her award
winning podcast, FunnyJazzChick.com, which has subscribers in 63
countries. The CD was recorded live at the Metropolitan Room in NYC,
with Tedd Firth on piano, Jay Leonhart on bass and Matt Wilson on
drums, and it features special guest Bob Dorough .

Bird On The Wire, released in 2005, garnered rave reviews in
LA Jazz Scene, Jazz Improv, All About Jazz and others. To support the
album, Joan toured Berlin, Prague, and Amsterdam.

Joan’s comic ability earned her the 2002 MAC Award for
Female Musical Comedy. Her other venue credits include, The Jazz
Standard, The Iridium Jazz Club, Sweet Rhythm, Town Hall (NYC),
Trumpets, The Emelin Theatre, The Cinegrill, Odettes, The Manor,
Arci’s Place, Westchester Conservatory of Music, and ASCAP
songwriters’ showcase to name a few.

Joan continues to perform with her big band, High Society
Rhythm at such venues as The Rainbow Room, The Plaza Hotel, The Oak
Room in Grand Prospect Hall, and Kennedy Center.

She’s married to actor/producer, Robb Pruitt and mother to children
Robbie and Marie.
